How to Choose the Right Surf Bikini

Friday, April 29th, 2011

This week’s video is another specially for girls, our surfing chicas out there. While your bikini might seem like the last thing to focus on when going out to surf (after a good wax, leash etc), it is definitely going to be one of the most prevalent things that will certainly ruin a good surf session if your bikini is not behaving the way it should and staying in place. So here are a few tips on what to look for in a bikini, that will make surfing with it on, a bit more pleasurable.

VIDEO: HOW TO CHOOSE the right surf bikini

Tips from the Video

  • Connects in the Front: Choose a bikini that has an area in the front that is covered or connected – either a sports bra bikini that covers the entire area or a string bikini where the two front triangles, are sewn together so there is very possibility for movement of the front.
  • Cross in the back: Bikinis that cross in the back give you extra pull near the top of the back area to ensure that the front of your bikini doesn’t move. So find one that crosses in the back somehow that allows you to tie it really tight.
  • Choose Bottoms with String Ties: With the waves coming at you and its time to retreat in the water letting the board go, the last thing you want to let loose is your bottoms. One of the best tips is to find a bikini that lets you tie the entire bottom on one side to tighten. String bikinis with ties on two sides will be too easy to untie on both areas.

Favorite Bikini Tips from our Facebook Fan Page:

  • Alexis Clarkson: “I’m a fan of triangle halter tops with boy short bottoms: strings don’t quite keep things where they belong!”
  • Cindy Jo Jovanovic: “Halter bikini tops and boardshorts with a rashguard = no adjustments and hassle-free surfing.”

Thanks for your tips ladies! If anyone else has any comments or tips, feel free to share pictures or commentary to feature on our blog!
